I really enjoying planting my garden, putting down mulch around my flowerbeds, and pretty much everything else that keeps me outside. What I do not care for, which I am sure you can related to, is pulling weeds.

Weeds in your garden are going to happen. It is just one of those things that comes with homeownership.

But luckily, there is now a way to save you time and save you some back pains from pulling weeds. The Tertill Weeding Robot can help you with your pesky weed problem.

What Is The Tertill Robot?

The Tertill Weeding Robot looks like a miniature green Roomba. The appearance shouldn’t be too shocking, consider it is made by the same people who came up with the Roomba robot vacuum.

The Tertill is designed to search out and cut down or remove weeds before they grow in your garden.

How Does The Tertill Weeding Robot Work?

Tertill Weed Robot

The Tertill uses a large solar panel mounting on its top to draw energy from the sun and charge its battery.

Once charged, the Tertill will cruise around your garden looking for weeds. When it comes across a weed, it will move in a circle on top of it and chop it down using a nylon string, kind of like your standard weed eater uses. The sharp wheels are also used to help cut down the weed.

The Tertill doesn’t have sophisticated GPS or mapping to help it move around. It just kind of moves around at random, searching out weeds as it goes.

Since it doesn’t have advanced mapping or sensors, you will need to keep it contained in a raise structure or by setting up physical barrier. There are no virtual barriers with the Tertill Robot Weeder.

How Does The Tertill Know What Is A Weed?

So a very common question I get is – How does the Terill Robot know if something is a weed or a plant or flower?

The Tertill doesn’t have sensors or AI that lets it know if something is a weed or plant. It purely targets its victims based on their size.

If the object it comes across is less than 2″ in height, the Tertill will cut it down.

What If My Plants Are Seedlings Or Under 2″?

Unfortunately, the Tertill Robot will chop down anything under 2″ regardless of whether it is a pesky weed or your newly planted tomato plant.

If you have short plants in your garden, you’ll need to set up a barrier around them to protect them from weeding bot. You simply surround the plant or flower with some wire to deter the robot from getting to close.

What Is The Point Of The Tertill Robot Weeder?

The idea is that by continuously chopping down weeds before they get taller than 2″, you should never have to pull weeds by hand. Eventually, the weeds should stop trying to grow back.

Does The Tertill Robot Weeder Really Work?

The Tertill does well when it comes to its primary job of finding something under 2″ and chopping it down.

However, the robot weed eater doesn’t have advanced mapping, so there is a good chance that it will miss sections of your garden, if you have a large one.

The Tertill also seemed to get stuck in certain spots. It would get hung up in the corner of the raised bed. The wheels also seemed to have trouble in very fresh topsoil.

Setup For The Tertill Robot

There isn’t much to setting up the Tertill Weeding Robot. You just need to set it in the sun so it can charge its battery and then it is good to.

Once charge, you can stick it in your garden and it will got to work.

Maintenance For The Tertill

There really isn’t any regular maintenance that is needed for the Tertill. You will need to change the nylon spinner when it runs out, but that is very easy and inexpensive to do.

Other than that, this little robot doesn’t need much attention. Just make sure it is getting enough sun light to keep its battery charged.

  • Weeds everyday (with enough sun)

CONs For The Tertill

  • No smart sensors

How Much Does The Tertill Cost?

You can pick up the Tertill Weeding Robot for $350 on Amazon.

The price might seem a bit steep, rivaling some models of robot vacuums or mops. I guess you need to determine if the value is there for you. Just how much do you hate pulling weeds?

Is The Tertill Worth it?

The Tertill Robot does a great job at cutting down weeds on a daily basis. The ability to use it daily adds great benefit to any gardener.

However, if you live in an area that doesn’t get much sun, you won’t be able to use the solar-powered robot as often.

You do also have to remember that it will chop down anything that is under 2″. It is crucial that your protect your plants and flowers so they don’t get the chop.

If it were money, I would probably suck it up and just continue to pull weeds by hand. But, I also only have one raised garden bed. Those will large gardens may argue that the value is there for this little gardening robot.
